Antonio Pappano’s connection with the London Symphony Orchestra dates back many years: his first concert with the ensemble was in 1996, and after numerous frequent collaborations, it culminated last year in his appointment as principal conductor. More recent, but no less profound, is his partnership with Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili, which began in Rome in 2015 when Pappano was principal conductor of the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia. Having previously explored the great 20th-century violin concertos (from Sibelius to Bartók), conductor and soloist now turn to the last of Mozart’s five violin concertos, framed by two symphonic classics from the early and late 19th century.
