Caravaggio and Monteverdi share the same era (the age of mannerism) and the same expressive language: the poetics of the affections. It is only natural, then, that they should be found side by side in this highly original performance. Under the banner of “Pur ti miro” (the final duet from L’incoronazione di Poppea), La Venexiana, the ensemble founded in 1997 by the late Claudio Cavina, long dedicated to renewing the madrigal repertoire, joins forces with the Compagnia Teatri 35, which for twenty years has been experimenting with the theatrical practice of tableaux vivants. In their dialogue, which unfolds through the works of Monteverdi, Gagliano, Schütz, Frescobaldi, and other contemporaries, image becomes sound, and sound becomes vision.
