Valentina Benfenati, a violinist with crystalline talent, and Leonardo Pierdomenico, a steadily rising pianist, dedicate their concert to the Boulanger sisters. Nadia (1887-1979), the teacher of three generations of musicians (Ibert, Gershwin, Copland, Carter, Hancock, Bernstein, Piazzolla, and Barenboim are among the attendees of the so-called “boulangerie“), and Lili (1893-1918), the first female composer to receive the coveted Prix de Rome. Surrounding them are the first Sonata by Gabriel Fauré, who taught both Nadia and Lili, and the Sonata in A major for violin and piano by César Franck, the father of French chamber music.
