Bruce Liu
piano
Bruce Liu, the triumphant winner of the eighteenth edition of the Chopin Competition, dedicated to the victims of the Ukrainian war the first of his two recitals held in Warsaw. It is the gesture of a musician with both mind and heart, and this understanding becomes clear when listening to his interpretations: rigorous, precise, and impeccable. Born in Paris to Chinese parents but musically raised in Montreal, Bruce Liu brings to Bologna a recital that departs from the beloved Chopin, in order to explore the classicism of Haydn and Beethoven, the 20th-century compositions of Prokofiev, and eventually landing on the “jazz-inspired” Variations op.41 by the Russian composer Nikolai Kapustin, born in 1937.
